Dear NAMI Massachusetts community,
Governor Baker has just announced a State of Emergency for Massachusetts due to Coronavirus Disease 2019 (COVID-19). Because we take the health and well-being of our NAMI Massachusetts community very seriously, we advise that in-person classes and support groups change to a conference call format and cease to meet in-person. We are busy working with all Peer and Family support group and class leaders to move the groups to a conference call or video-conference format, or to temporarily suspend them. If you attend a NAMI support group or education program, please check with your program leaders and facilitators for the latest information about your groups and classes.
We will continue to make adjustments in our Community Education & Training programs, including In Our Own Voice, Ending the Silence, Allies for Students with Mental Health, and Sharing Your Story with Law Enforcement. Any needed changes will be communicated directly to those impacted. We anticipate that our COMPASS Helpline will continue to be available. And changes to this policy will be posted on our website.
We encourage you all to use the most reliable websites for information – the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) and the Massachusetts Department of Public Health (MA DPH). The MA DPH website has the best local information so please pay particular attention to their advisories.

We are working hard to ensure that we are following the best practices in public health, medical, and sanitation directives. To that end, we will be moving Advocacy Day to an online format. At this time, we will be moving forward with our wonderful NAMIWalks Massachusetts on May 16. Please stay tuned for more details. We appreciate your patience as we move through these turbulent times together.
Sincerely, Deborah Shields, JD, MPH
