NAMI Mass joined other members of the Massachusetts Parity Taskforce and the Mental Health Coalition to testify at the State House on June 6th. The Financial Services Committee was hearing many bills that are important to our NAMI community. Monica Luke, Chair of the Advocacy Committee for NAMI Mass, testified on the parity bills (H. 910/ S.588 ) and also about a specific parity issue, the ESP bill (H. 909 / S.590 ) that would require commercial insurance to cover ESP services (currently only available to Mass Health clients).
It was a packed room at the State House and all the testimony was in favor of all these bills. In addition to local advocacy group, the American Psychiatric Association testified in favor of the bill and also compared Massachusetts to other states describing the current opportunities to improve enforcement of the federal parity bill passed in 2008.
The committee continues to accept written testimony – contact us at firstname.lastname@example.org for information on how to submit testimony if you’re interested. We are hopeful these bills will be reported out favorably.
