NAMI Mass is a nonpartisan organization that seeks to improve the quality of life for people living with mental health conditions, their families, and their caregivers. We envision a society that humanizes the experience of mental health challenges, promotes the values of respect, agency, self-determination, non-coercion, and non-violence. We are committed to supporting individuals and families wherever they are in their journey of healing and recovery.
While we are nonpartisan and express no views about the merits of an individual candidate, we recognize that the results of the recent elections have brought up a range of emotions, including uncertainty, fear, and frustration, for many people across Massachusetts. We understand that people’s intersectional and social identities shape their experiences, and that the impact of the election will be felt differently by different communities. No matter what you’re feeling, NAMI Mass is here to listen and offer support. We know that mental health is closely tied to one’s sense of security, rights, and personal freedoms, and that many people are concerned about what the future may hold. Please know that we are committed to standing by you, offering resources, and providing a space for you to process and cope.
We acknowledge that some communities are more vulnerable to discrimination and violations of their human rights within our current systems. As an organization, we stand against any such violations. Human rights violations are often linked to adverse mental health outcomes, including increased levels of depression, anxiety, trauma, and other stress-related conditions. We will continue to stand shoulder-to-shoulder with those who are most vulnerable, advocating for their well-being and rights. We remain steadfast in our commitment to advocating for change, providing direct support and education, and uplifting the voices of those with lived experience.
For the past 42 years, we’ve been dedicated to supporting individuals, families, and communities across the Commonwealth of Massachusetts whose lives are impacted by mental health challenges. We assure you that we will continue that vital work. As part of our ongoing commitment, we’ve gathered post-election support resources on our website to help you. Additionally, as always, feel free to contact our free Compass Helpline for resources, ideas and support.
Please take the time you need to care for yourself and your loved ones. When you’re ready, know that we are here for you, standing by your side. We’re not going anywhere.
Sincerely,
Eliza T. Williamson
